I had spent the whole day doing yard work, so the most likely scenario was it fell off while cleaning leaves and branches out of my garden beds. So I retraced every step, dug through the mulch pile, and didn't find it. Next thing I thought of was to rent a metal detector, but I didn't even know if a gold wedding band would be detected by a metal detector, so I used Google to ask that question. That's when I found The Ring Finders site, and saw the listing for Shawn Maillet. Why rent a metal detector, when I could have an expert come out and help me search for it?

I called Shawn, and could tell immediately how passionate he is about his hobby. He told me how he loves detecting as much as some people love playing golf. And in ten minutes on the phone, he educated me on the process, even letting me know that many lost rings are found inside the house in unexpected places. I still had a hunch it was outside, so I made an appointment with Shawn, and in the meantime dug through my couches and other likely places but still didn't find it.

When Shawn arrived, we talked about what I had done the day I lost the ring, and came up with the most likely places, so we started the search in the area where I had dumped all the leaves and branches. After two minutes he starts digging, my heart starts racing, but it's an old razor blade. A few minutes after that, another hit, but its a rusty nail. Thinking that this might be a long day, I walk back onto the grass to do some looking on my own, when I hear Shawn say, "Jeff, this is going to be a happy day" as he walks out holding my ring.

My wife had been watching from the slider, and before it even sunk in that Shawn was holding my ring, she came out the door asking if we found it. What a great feeling. As much as Shawn enjoys the thrill of the hunt, the greatest satisfaction he gets is the joy he brings to the people he helps. Thank you so much, Shawn, for bringing us joy, and hope that you can do the same for many more people in the years ahead.

I lost my wedding ring while walking just below the high tide mark at Locarno Beach on Monday night. The wife and I went back on Tues morning but had no luck finding it.

I went back Wed afternoon and again had no luck.

When I got home I decided to check Craigslist, just in case.

I saw an ad for theringfinders and decided to give them a call.

Chris answered the call but was in Tsawwassen. He had a look on his cell phone and saw that the tide would be low again at 3am Thurs morning.

I drew up a small map of where I thought it would be and sent it to Chris.

He answered that he would be out looking at 3am and hopefully he would have good news for me when I woke up.

When I got up this morning there it was ... an email from Chris saying that he had found it, with an accompanying photo!

It was a miracle! It was two days after I had lost my rings...

I lost my engagement ring and wedding band on the beach in Dana Point two days ago, Thursday June 30th. I did not realize I had lost my rings until the next morning when I went to put them on. I take them off every night. I immediately realized how and when I lost them. When I was putting sunscreen on my 4 month old I took my rings off and put them in the cup holder of my chair. I completely forgot about them. I went back the next day Friday July 1st and spoke to the lifeguards to see if anything had been turned in. Of course no rings, just a cell phone and watch. I desperately tried to locate a metal detector to go back in the evening to try and look again. The metal detector I had borrowed from a friend was a joke. It looked like a toy and sure enough no luck! That is when I turned to Doug Carney. He said he could come out right away. He showed such amazing enthusiasm and assured me he could find them. We made arrangements to meet the next morning bright and early to beat the crowd. I didn't really know what to expect and when I saw the kind of equipment he had and his friend he brought I felt at ease. I had a great feeling we were going to find the rings. I took him to the location on the beach where I thought I had lost them and he first prayed then right to work. About 15 minutes went by before he found the first ring. I was overjoyed!!! I would have left a happy girl with just that ring. Then his friend took a turn looking through the sand with his metal detector and within 5 minutes my engagement ring was found! It was a miracle! It was two days after I had lost my rings and it was apparent the tide had come up the night before and they still found my rings with no problem at all. I am forever grateful the Doug and would recommend him to anyone in need!

We made arrangements to meet the next morning bright and early to beat the crowd. I didn't really know what to expect and when I saw the kind of equipment he had and his friend he brought I felt at ease. I had a great feeling we were going to find the rings. I took him to the location on the beach where I thought I had lost them and he first prayed then right to work. About 15 minutes went by before he found the first ring. I was overjoyed!!! I would have left a happy girl with just that ring. Then his friend took a turn looking through the sand with his metal detector and within 5 minutes my engagement ring was found! It was a miracle! From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you for finding my lost 1980 NFL Conference Championship ring with your metal detector.

I was reasonably sure I lost the ring while doing spring clean-up in the yard. The day I called you in desperation for help, you came over immediately to try and find the ring. Although the weather was miserably cold and pouring rain, you nonetheless scanned the yard for hours trying to find it. Vic found my husband’s wedding band at the bottom of the Magothy River! The ring had slipped off his finger while we swam at our community beach in Cape St. Claire. He realized right away that the ring was off and we spent almost 2 hours combing the area- we were over 30 yards out from the shore in waist-deep water, and even with swimming goggles you could only see about 6-8 inches in front of you. As it grew late, we conceded that we were never going to find the ring. My husband felt terrible about losing his wedding ring, though it was not his fault. I knew it was going to continue to bother him, so I went home and started searching the web. Initially, I was hoping to find a metal detector for rent, then I came across The Ring Finders’ website. I was playing baseball in Burnaby, when I left to go home I noticed that I had lost my nugget. I returned to the field and searched on my own for hours and finally gave up.
